Beth:

I've lived in a rural community in southwestern Wisconsin for most of my life. In 1995 we
moved to a house on the edge of Boscobel near the local airport. I can remember hearing the
airplanes flying over my house and every time my heart leapt with excitement. I've always
been mystified by the thought of flying but it was not until I was about twelve years old when
I decided that I really wanted to fly. My dream was to join the Air Force, learn to fly then go to
NASA and pilot shuttles into outer space. My dream changed as I got older but I still wanted to
fly.

I am now twenty-one years old and I'm working on my private pilot license (with my flying
buddy, Anna Simons). I started towards my private pilot on December 9, 2006; it was my first
lesson and after it I was hooked.

My future plans for aviation are to become a Private pilot and this fall I'd like to attend college,
preferably at the University of Dubuque, to further my aviation knowledge. After which I want
to go to Alaska and be a bush pilot, improving my flying skills and gaining flight time. Once I
feel confident in my piloting skills, or at least as confident as any pilot should dare, and have
enough flight time I want to become an Aviation Missionary in Africa, Australia or other
countries. In order to become an Aviation Missionary I will need to become a certified (ANP)
Mechanic. I have not yet worked out how I will accomplish this but I am considering the military.

My Inspirations and my motivations come from my Grandfather, who is always telling me how
proud he is that I am flying. Anna Simons who is always challenging me to be better and to
work harder. my family, and my Nephews, Jaden and Daryen, their eyes light up when I tell
them that I am going to take them flying with me. Every time I hear or see an aircraft in the
sky it gives me a feeling of pride and excitement. As a fellow aviator I can only guess that you
understand the feeling that I am trying to describe to you.

I believe that I am a good role model for Girls with Wings because I am willing to fight for my
dreams. I am determined to accomplish them. I have had people in the past tell me that my
dreams are too high; that there’s is no way that I will accomplish them. I refuse to believe that
and I encourage anyone who has a dream, to fight for it and to work to achieve their goals. I
believe that I would make a good role model for these reasons and because I am a hard
working, caring and strong individual that won’t let words bring me down. I would like you to
consider me for the Girl With Wings scholarship so that I can take that next step in achieving
my goal and so that I can be an encouragement to all those girls out there who think that their
dreams are too high.
