Jessica:
I am a very excited sixteen year old student pilot. I am a Junior at Dodge County High School
and involved in many clubs and activities. Unlike the other students at my school, I know what
I want to achieve in life, and I am working on achieving it now. Its a lot different than what
other people my age do, its flying. I took my first flying lesson in 2003 when I was only a
middle school student. A year or so ago I have really taken my flying serious and have been
taking lessons in a 1971 Piper Arrow. I soloed the Arrow on Saturday October 27, 2007 at
Heart of Georgia Regional Airport. As many people told me, it is an accomplishment for a
sixteen year old to solo a Piper Arrow. I'm just glad to have had the chance to do it, it has
changed my life tremendously.
I find flying to be the best thing in the world! I have tried playing sports, dancing, and
gymnastics, and none of those even compare to the thrill I get when I am behind the yoke of
an airplane. Flying is my passion. It helps me have fun, relax, and stay away from any kind of
trouble most people my age get in. I absolutely love flying! I enjoy learning new things that
many people do not do.
For the last several years I have been extremely interested in aviation and have been looking
forward to a career in that field, most likely an airline pilot. My dad always told me that if I get
a career that I enjoy doing, I never have to work a day in my life. I think that is true and so
that is the main reason I want to become an airline pilot. Therefore, after I graduate I will be
attending Middle Georgia College's Aviation Campus. (Formerly known as Georgia Aviation and
Technical College) It is located right here in my hometown so I don't even have to move off to
go to college. One day I even hope to learn to fly helicopters at Middle Georgia. I am looking
forward to furthering my knowledge in aviation!
Every summer at the college, there is an aviation camp for middle school students. As you
probably guessed, I went all three years and volunteered my fourth year. While at the camp I
got the chance to fly in the simulator and experience flight in a Warrior, Seminole, and
helicopter. I was excited about volunteering this past summer, but my grandfather became ill
and passed away, therefore I wasn't able to go. I am still very lucky to have got the chance to
attend the camp for four years.
By learning to fly now, I think I am a great role model for a lot of people out there, especially
young girls. Learning to fly a plane while most people my age can't even drive a car, is an
excellent accomplishment. It shows people that no matter how old someone may be, or what
gender they are, they can do anything if their mind is set on doing it. All you have to do is
apply yourself and set your mind on whatever you want to do, and you can achieve your
dreams! That's what I am doing and it has already got me this far. Im so excited just thinking
about how great my first solo was, which was last weekend. It makes me feel so good about
myself and how I can achieve anything!
I consider myself an inspiration to young girls and anyone around the world. By working on
what I want to do later in life, makes it easier when I get older. One day I will graduate
college and become one of the youngest airline pilots in the world. That is because I started
applying myself early in life. While most other teenagers were partying with friends, I was
flying or gaining knowledge from other pilots around the airport. By listening to what other
pilots have to say may save your life. They can tell you what to do or not to do in certain
situations.
Most importantly, I want people to know that they have the power to do anything. Nothing
can stop them. Like Ziglar said, "Obstacles are things we see when we take our mind off our
goals." The power lies in your own hands. If you believe in your dreams you can achieve
anything!
