Jonelle:

I am currently a junior at Northview High School. I am enrolled in engineering courses in order
to work towards a Dual Diploma. This year I was inducted into the Legion of Honor and Legion
of Scholars at my High School. I was also accepted as a member of the National Honor Society
of High School Scholars. In my community I have volunteered for various programs such as
Relay for Life, Church Unite, and other activities. Recently I volunteered at the American Heroes
Air Show and Public Safety Expo, where I was exposed to various helicopter aircraft. My
hobbies are playing basketball (05-06 MVP) and running track (06 Coaches Award) at my
school. My interests consist of aircraft, electrical and mechanical programming, and other forms
of technology. I have already experienced my first solo flight and have ten hours of flight time.

My main motivation is my mother. She has always supported my decision to pursue a career in
aviation. My biggest motivation is anyone who does not believe I can achieve my goal to
become a pilot. I am inspired by Bessie Coleman for her determination to reach her goal as a
pilot. I also admire Mae Jemison for her hard work and drive to become the first African-
American astronaut. Furthermore, I am mainly inspired by any female pursuing a career in
aviation, especially a pilot.

In the future I plan to become a corporate or commercial pilot. I also plan to receive a degree
in mechanical engineering, specializing in aerospace. While in college I plan to study in
mechanical engineering and work towards receiving all my ratings and flight time.

If given the scholarship money, I would be able to continue my flight training to work towards
my pilot’s license. Ultimately, I would be able to further my pursuit in becoming a pilot.
