I am so happy someone decided to include girls in the dream of flight!
For so many years, I have had to hitch a ride, or watch from the ground as my Father or
Brother flew around in the sky tormenting my soul. I wanted to take off alone, with no one in
the cockpit but myself. Well, today that long ago dream came true. I soloed my Cessna 150!
I have been taking lessons since March, so to solo now comes late, but the time and money
are a big issue.
I have 3 children and a husband, who are very supportive, but they are my first priority, then
flying comes second. I am very lucky that my brother is a Flight Instructor. He is a Pilot for Net
Jet Airlines, so is gone for seven days then home five days. There is not much time for him to
teach me, as he has a two-year-old daughter and a wife who is glad to see him. He lives
almost two hours from me, so I have to drive to get to him, then fly, then drive back home. It
makes for a very long day for an hour of flight training. As you can see, I haven't gotten very
far in six months.
If chosen for a scholarship, I would gladly encourage every female around to at least take a
discovery flight. I want to go forward with my flying ability. I hope to get into the industry to
become a Certified Flight Instructor myself. I want to teach my children to fly and I would like
to teach other children to fly. I think flying is a wonderful dance between your spirit and God!
It can set you free from all your worries, and make you feel free from every problem or anxiety.
Everyone needs a hobby. Why not make it flying?
