Airline Pilot

I currently fly the B-737 for Continental Airlines and I live in Carlsbad, Ca
with my husband.

With my mom a United Airlines flight attendant, I grew up traveling around
everywhere.  She would take me to London for the weekend, or to Maui
for a few days.  I loved the lifestyle that she led and I saw how much free
time she had to do her hobbies.

When I was 20 years old, I approached my mom about becoming a flight
attendant, just like her.  She said that she would help me, but wanted me
to try flying because she thought that it would challenge me more.
Reluctantly, I took my first lesson near my home at Camarillo Airport in
Southern California.  I was terrified of this tiny Cessna-152 that I was
supposed to control!!!  But after I soloed that airplane a few months later,
I felt alive!  At that moment, I committed myself 100% to making it to a
major airline.

I continued working on my ratings at the local flight school in southern
California while I finished my BA at UCSD in History. After college
graduation, I flight instructed and flew traffic watch, then flew scenic
charter flights over the Grand Canyon, and finally was hired by a regional
airline to fly the Dash 8 in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado at age 23.  I
took the first opportunity to upgrade to captain, and 3 years later all of
my hard work was rewarded when Continental Airlines hired me to fly the
Boeing 737.  I love my job.  Taking that first flight was the best decision
that I have ever made.

I love the freedom of my job.  I get to challenge myself at work while
having fun flying an airplane, but then I get to home and play!  My
husband (Brent, who is also an airline pilot) and I take full advantage of
our free lifestyle: we go mountain biking, hiking, skiing, traveling and
kayaking on our days off.
