Student Pilot

I am 12 years old and a 7th grader who is very interested in aviation. I live
north of Atlanta GA and I am a member of Woman in Aviation, International
and EAA Young Eagles. I have flown a helicopter, a BR-22 as well as a fixed
wing airplane, a Cessna 172 SP. When I cannot fly real helicopters and
airplanes I fly RC helicopters and airplanes and when I cannot fly RCs I fly
using Flight Simulator X on my computer. I also enjoy hanging out at
airports and watching the planes take off and attending air shows. I plan on
getting my Private Pilot Certificate as soon as I can.  Besides flying, I also
enjoy riding my motorcycle, scuba diving and cooking. I want to sky dive
when I am old enough.

My father loves aviation and was always taking me to airports to eat and
watch the planes. When he started taking flying lessons, he started teaching
me to fly RC planes and helicopters. Once I started flying RCs, I knew I
wanted to fly the real thing.

I want to become a pilot because of the challenge. I have always enjoyed
math and science and by learning to fly I understand why I need to learn as
much as I can. I get to use things I learn in school while I am flying and
things I learn flying in school.

I love to fly because you get to see the world from above, get to go fast,
and you are doing something that most people never get to do. While my
friends are playing video games or soccer, I am flying. The best thing that I
have done so far was when I was flying the helicopter and banked over some
tall buildings and I looked down on top of the buildings with no door on the
helicopter.

Another thing I enjoy about flying is the people you get to meet. My friends
in WAI are great. Some are airline pilots, some are helicopter pilots, some are
air traffic controllers and one even owns her own flight school. We also get
to go on airport tours, go to air shows and museum tours.

If someone asked me how to get into flying, I would tell them to join a club,
go to as many airports and air shows as you can, go eat at the airport
restaurants and watch the planes, go to aviation camp, fly RCs, build models
of airplanes, read about it and listen to pilots on a scanner.
