Military Aviator
My name is Christa Stowe, I am 24 years old, and I am an Ensign in the
United States Navy. I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in
May 2007. Right after graduation the Navy sent me to Paris for language
training and, when I got back, shipped me off to Pensacola for flight school. I
started off in Aviation Preflight Indoctrination then went to Training
Squadron 10 for Primary and Intermediate flight training. Now I'm in Training
Squadron 86 (VT-86) for Advanced training. In a few short months I'll have
my Wings of Gold as a Naval Flight Officer! I'm hoping to crew the EA-6B
Prowler or the EA-18G/F/A-18G Growler.
I am still very young and my career is just starting but I have been preparing
for a long time. I’ve wanted to fly for as long as I can remember. I grew up in
Ormond Beach, FL and went to Spruce Creek High School. I worked hard at
math and science and it's served me well. As I said, I went to the United
States Naval Academy. I am majored in English and minored in French. The
Naval Academy is a 4-year college but, unlike other schools, I wore a uniform
to class every day. The schedule was demanding and we had a lot of extra
jobs besides just going to class. Over the four years I spent there I was
challenged in a lot of different ways but it was an AMAZING experience.
Personally, I’m just a girl like anybody else. I like to read, run, listen to music,
sing, hang out with my friends, and cook when I have free time. Someday I
want to get married and have kids but I'm having too much fun flying for
now!
If you want to do anything related to aviation I say GO FOR IT! Even though
I’m just getting started I really feel like I’m living out my dreams. I would love
to hear from any of you who are interested. It was only a few short years
ago that I was in your shoes. Best of luck in all that you do!
Blue skies,
Christa
