Somewhere over Alaska, August 2004.  Maureen
Griggs and I attempted to become the first all-female
crew to fly a general aviation airplane from the US into
Russia.  We left Seattle, flew north for a few days,
though Canada and the Yukon Territory, and across
Alaska.  We got stuck in Nome, on the far west coast,
with bad weather.  Our Russian flight permit expired,
and though we tried hard, the Russian government
refused to reissue that permission.
